Some dental offices offer orthodontic services to their patients to help align their teeth. Now, what we’re about to say is to not talk negatively about dentists! In fact, dentists and orthodontists often work together to create healthy, beautiful smiles for you, and we encourage you to see your dentist as often as they recommend. However, dentists don’t receive the same training that orthodontists do. After dental school, orthodontists get specialized training in the art of teeth and jaw alignment and facial development.
Online orthodontic services often require you to do some DIY projects, like an at-home mold impression and taking photos of your mouth. While they can get essential information related to your care this way, they aren’t able to get all the facts because some causes for concern hide under the surface and can only be seen with X-rays! With an in-person orthodontist, you can build a relationship of trust with your provider, starting with a thorough examination to ensure the mouth is healthy! Attempting to move the teeth when they’re not ready could have disastrous results for your smile and overall health, so we recommend opting for in-person care whenever possible.
Multiple Treatment Options!
Most dentists and all online providers solely offer clear aligners as their treatment option. And clear aligners are great! At DiMarzio Orthodontics, we offer Invisalign for patients who qualify. However, clear aligners are not the best choice for everyone! That’s why we gladly provide other options for patients who don’t want the responsibility of clear aligners or who have more complex issues than aligners can fix.
Metal Braces
A traditional but reliable and effective choice, metal braces have long since earned their respectable reputation. Thanks to technological advances, metal braces are sleeker and more comfortable than ever. They can fix even the most tricky of alignments, and their durability makes them perfect for younger patients or people who worry they will be rough on their appliances.
3M Clarity Braces
3M Clarity braces use tooth-colored brackets and ligatures (the elastics that hold the wire to the brackets) to drastically reduce the visibility of braces. While they are not transparent like clear aligners, they create the illusion of clear braces.
3M Clarity braces are an excellent choice for patients who need braces but don’t want them to be the first thing people see. Ceramic braces require a bit more maintenance than traditional metal braces to keep their appearance, so we recommend them for adults or older teenagers.
Invisalign
Easily one of the most popular courses of orthodontic treatment in recent years, patients love Invisalign! We’ll perform a 3D scan of your teeth and jaws, then develop a treatment plan of aligning trays based on those scans.
You’ll swap out a new pair of custom-printed trays every week or two, and before you know it, you’ll have an amazing new smile! Invisalign is doubly popular since the trays can be removed during brushing sessions and for snacks!
Surgical Options
Like braces, surgical treatments can treat many issues, but like clear aligners, surgery is not an option for everyone. Dr. DiMarzio or Dr. Marczak can help you determine if you are a candidate for treatment during an appointment.
